  3. Finals time for Sydney University Hockey Club

Sydney University Hockey Club’s Metro League Division 1 Women have qualified for the Major Semi Final in the Sydney Women’s Hockey League.

Despite a slow start to the season, where they only managed two wins, two draws and two losses in the first six games, they were able to get their season back on track and now sit in equal first place on the ladder.

The team have not suffered a loss since Round 6, back in May and can attribute their success in the second half of the season to working hard at training and becoming more familiar with key combinations on the field.

Sydney University player Rachel Brady is hoping the group can continue their great form and make a strong run in Finals.

“After a shaky start to the season, we are very happy to have finished in the top two before finals. We have been undefeated for the second half of the season and finished strong with the least amount of losses in the competition,” Brady said.

“We’re really excited with the level we are playing at and hopefully we can win the ultimate prize,” she added.

Following a 3-1 defeat of Ryde in the last game of the regular season, Sydney University finished equal first on the ladder but on goal difference came second behind Gordon.

They take on Gordon at 1pm on Sunday 2nd September at Sydney Olympic Park in the Major Semi Final.

Multiple Sydney University players have also been selected in the NSW Arrows Squad to contest Hockey Australia’s new format Australian Hockey League. Congratulations to Alice Arnott, Greta Hayes, Emma Scriven and Jess Parr on their selection.
