In their inaugural Aon Uni 7s campaign, the University of Sydney secured an impressive top-four finish in the opening round which was held at the University of Tasmania in Hobart at the weekend.

The Students won three of their four round games, bouncing back after an opening round defeat at the hands of third-place finishers, Griffith, 26-12.

Their first victory came against Bond University in round 2, thumping Bond University, 32-0. Jakiya Whitfeld and Emma Wade both notched hat-tricks in the victory, complemented by four conversions by Chantelle Miell.

Sydney then defeated the University of New England, 22-10, to close out day one of the tournament, putting themselves in a dominant position for day two.

On day two, the Students kicked things off with a win over the University of Canberra, 12-7. Whitfeld again dominated with two tries in the third and sixth minute.

Following a strong set of performances in their round games, Sydney Uni faced an undefeated Macquarie University in the semi, going down three tries to one.

The tough loss saw them progress to a third-place playoff against Griffith, where they again fell, 36-0, clutching a fourth place finish in round one of the series.

The Students head into round two just behind 2017 Champions, the University of Queensland, who finished first, Macquarie University and Griffith University.

In their maiden series, they sit ahead of the University of Canberra, round hosts the University of Tasmania, University of Adelaide, Bond University, the University of New England and University of Melbourne.

The girls will enjoy two weeks of recovery, rest and training ahead of round two at the University of Canberra from 8-9 September.

Crazy sequence between @sydney_uni and @macquarieuni in the #Uni7s semi-finals.
