Sydney University Elite Athlete Program member, Simon McTavish completed his successful international season by winning two gold medals and one bronze medal at the 2018 FISU World University Canoe Sprint Championship in Szolnok, Hungary.
McTavish dominated both the men’s K1 500 winning the final in 1:40.66, more than two seconds ahead of Hungarian Zsombor József Noé and German Felix Frank.
McTavish added another gold in the K1 1000m winning the final in 3:30.732, almost three seconds ahead of second placed Richárd Alfréd Doba (HUN) and third placed Ihar Baicheuski (BLR).
In the K1 200m he finished in third place, recording a personal best time of 35.26 only a tenth of a second behind the winner.
The medal haul follows a successful international season for McTavish who recently won a silver medal in the men’s K1 1000m at the 2018 ICF Canoe Sprint U23 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
