Sydney University Women’s Rugby Club has three representatives in the 28-strong Australian Wallaroos squad to take on the New Zealand Black Ferns in a two-Test series in Australia next month.
Flankers Emily Chancellor and Fi Jones and backrower Grace Hamilton have been selected in the squad for Tests at Stadium Australia, Sydney, on 18 August and Eden Park, Auckland, on 25 August.
Chancellor and Jones are two of 13 uncapped players in the squad.
Both Tests will be double headers preceding Bledisloe Cup Tests between the Wallabies and All Blacks.
Players have been part of satellite training sessions across the country, linked with their various state high performances coaches, as they continued training for the 2018 Internationals, combined with club rugby commitments.
“I’ve been impressed with the work rate of the squad as they have continued their training programs and putting it into action at club rugby level,” Wallaroos head coach, Dwayne Nestor said. “The squad we are taking into camp is a great balance of youth and experience and one capable of playing some very good Rugby in August.
“Having talked to every member of the squad, there is just an overwhelming sense of excitement to continue the hard work heading into that first Test in Sydney. Outside of their actions on the field, this squad has a real commitment to wanting to influence the next generation of players to pick up a Rugby ball and play our game.
“We saw from the 2018 Super W just what exciting rugby is being played by our Women’s XVs and now the challenge is to take it up to the next level when we represent our country.”
