Several Sydney Uni Archers,as well as former Sydney Uni Archery Club members, travelled out to Penrith for the NSW State Short Course Championships on Sunday 8th of July.
The scoring round was the WA 60/900 where archers shoot 90 arrows at three different distances (60m, 50m & 40m) for a total possible score of 900. Medals are awarded for first, second & third place in each division.
Prior to the start of the tournament, a World Archery Judge presented Skye Truong with an award for setting a new State Tournament Record at the Northern Youth Challenge, a previous tournament in the WA 60/900 Barebow Recurve Junior Female.
Results of the Tournament:
Eduardo Delos Reyes scored 783 points in the Open Male Freestyle Recurve division ending up with 3rd place.
Julian Vu scored 467 points in the 20 & Under Male Barebow Recurve division ending up with 1st place.
Skye Truong decided to enter in a higher division (switching from 20 & Under to Opens) and scored 383 points in the Female Barebow Recurve division ending up with 2nd place. Her new score also means she has broken her previous state record and she will be awarded with another one.
Jack McGrath scored 484 points in the 20 & Under Male Recurve division, just missing out with 4th place.
Eric Hu struggled with unfortunate equipment failure and shot 694 points (almost 100 points down from his average) but still managed to place in the top ten in the Open / Male / Freestyle Recurve division.
The next major tournament the team will compete in will be at the National/State Indoor Archery Championships in two weeks.
