The Sydney Uni Velo Club produced some fantastic results at the Bathurst to Blayney Road Race at the weekend.

The first event for the day was the Hill Climb which saw Cathie Drysdale finish third and Maddy Beevors sixth in the Elite Women. Thomas Fisk finished in seventh place and twelth for Robert Car in the Elite Men. First place went to Christopher Miller and 6th place to Matt La Borg in the Masters one Category and Robert Matthews had a tenthth place in the Under 17’s Men.

Cathie’s result was outstanding, she was a nervous wreck on the start line but pulled herself together and proved that she is force to be reckoned with. Thomas Fisk’s impressive seventh place in the Elite Men was great, sitting just below the likes of Gene Richards who is the newly crowned elite road racing champion. The fastest time of the day went to Chris Miller in just a little over 9 minutes.

In the Criterium, SUVelo continued to produce outstanding results.

In the Divion One Women’s all eyes were on in form, Georgie Kate-Rose. Tthe team decided to mix things up a bit send young rising star Emily Watts off from the gun. Team mates, Emma Coral Roberts, Amy Vesty, Angela Smith & Georgie responded with every attack coming from the bunch.

The team was not letting anything get away. With Emily off the front and holding a 35 second gap, in the closing laps there were attacks coming from Em Viotto, Anna Booth & Simone Grounds.

It was the final 4 laps when the girls took back control of the race riding the front 4 wheels, keeping the pace high all the way into the final lap. Attacks came thick and fast and out of the final corner Georgie was 3rd wheel, sprinting past both competitors claiming second place.

An honourable mention goes to fellow clubbie Jennifer Darmody who stepped up from Div 2 to race against the best female/NRS competitors Bathurst had to offer. Jen was in the thick of the action right to the very end.

Emily Watts claimed both sprint primes and the win & Georgie Whitehouse claimed the bunch sprint with 2nd place.

In the Division One Men’s race, it was on from the gun. The pace was very fast and huge crash meant many riders did not finish the race.  Toby Orchard and Ed White were the only SUVelo finishes, with Toby narrowly missing 3rd place in an extremely fast criterion.

Divison Two Women’s had new club member Di Jones take the win ahead of club mate Marissa Madden and Jen Bullock. It was a great race, with Marissa telling Di to go ahead and not look back.

Div Two Men’s was another great spectacle, with Lachlan Burrows, Nelson Aston and Thomas Fisk all in the line-up. It was a fast and furious race, with Lachlan Burrows doing the goliath share of the work, chasing down everything that moved. He launched himself off the front numerous times and was voted the most aggressive rider by Paul Craft. Criterion racing isn’t Thomas’s strength and Nelson looked like he saw having too much fun looking comfortable all race, great to see these guys putting themselves out there racing amongst a strong field.

Robbie Matthews result in the Under 17’s Men did not do him justice, he was rolling in the top 4 wheels the entire race when a small mistake in the closing lap, cost him dearly.

Darren Pavey flew the flag for SUVelo in Division Four Men’s. Riding at the pointy end of the field and in the mix for a hotly contested bunch gallop, Darren came away with 7th place.
