A dominant pack helped Sydney University to a 42-30 win over West Harbour at Sydney University Football Ground on Saturday.

The six-try to three result also took the Students to the top of the Shute Shield ladder and reclaim the White Ribbon Cup, which the two clubs inuagurated in 2011.

Inside-centre William McDonnell scored two of the University tries, while centre partner Harry Potter and winger Guy Porter also posted five-pointers to go with two penalty tries earned by the pack.

West Harbour’s points came from tries to hooker, Andrew Tuala, five-eighth Sam Malcolm and No.8 Lio Lolo, while Malcolm kept the visitors in the hunt with three conversions and three penalty goals.

Having posted clean-sweeps in the first three rounds of the competition, Sydney University lead the overall Club Championship on 654 points, from Eastern Suburbs (459) and Northern Suburbs (448); and the Colts Club Championship on 165 points from Randwick (159) and Eastwood (120).

SUFC’s four grade sides and three Colts teams also head each of their competitions.

Sydney University top the Shute Shield ladder on 15 points, from Northern Suburbs (14), Manly (11), Eastern Suburbs (10), Warringah (10) and Randwick (10).

The Students have racked up 175 points and conceded 42 in the opening three rounds, earning a bonus point in each game against Penrith, Parramatta and West Harbour.

Second Grade are joint leaders with Eastern Suburbs in the Colin Caird Shield, having posted 234 points in three matches while conceding 31.

Third Grade are joint leaders with Warringah in the Henderson Shield, having posted 223 points while conceding a miserly 12, while Fourth Grade head the Henderson Cup competition, having scored 172 points while conceding 19.

In the Colts ranks, Sydney University Firsts have put on 249 points to head the competition, Seconds have tallied 225 points and Thirds have posted 135 points.

Sydney University will meet Northern Suburbs this Saturday, with the match to be played at Eridge Park in Bowral, home of the Bowral Blacks.

Fourth Grade – Henderson Cup: Sydney University 52 (Blake Harrison 3, Edward L’Estrange 2, William Wennerbom, Joe Schwager, Ethan Miller tries; William Wennerbom 6 goals) defeated West Harbour 5 (Daniel Gooding try) at Sydney University Football Ground on Saturday.

Colts

First – W. McMahon Shield: Sydney University 111 (Jack Murray 4, Sean Anese 3, William Terry 3, Eddie Poolman 2, Strath Yeo, Mitieli Tuinakauvadra, Sam Riley, Darcy Breen, Tom Osborne tries; Joshua Hardie 13 goals) defeated West Harbour 19 (Akapei Fonua 2, Ciaran Johnston goal – other scorers not recorded) at Concord Oval on Saturday.

Second – Shell Trophy: Sydney University 67 (Tim Lilomaiava 2, Penimapa Tuitupou 2, Max Robson 2, Charlie Hancock, Tyerell Lealuga Deku, Oliver Harvison, Angus Allen, Jack Murray tries; Max Robson 6 goals) defeated West Harbour 0 at Concord Oval on Saturday.

Third – Bill Simpson Shield: Sydney University 74 (Alex Simson 3, Samuel Begbie 2, Reihana Leui’I 2, Finn McDonagh, Angus Chadwick, Drew Beacom, Nathan Twibill, Henry Luise tries; Samuel Begbie 6 goals, Reihana Leui’I goal) defeated West Harbour 10 (Jacob Lavulo 2 tries) at Concord Oval on Saturday.
