Sydney University’s bowlers rewarded captain Nick Larkin’s century to earn first innings points against Hawkesbury at University Oval on Saturday.

Larkin’s 140 on the first day of the two-day, Round 4 fixture allowed the Students to declare at 9-397 and have the visitors 3-24 at stumps.

Leg-spinner Devlin Malone entered the fray on day two and claimed 3-44 as the visitors succumbed for 199.Arjun Nair topscored for Hawkesbury with 86.

Sydney University, the defending premiers, now lie fourth on the competition ladder on 18 points, behind Manly-Warringah (20), Eastern Suburbs (19) and Campbelltown-Camden (19).

Sydney University Second Grade had to settle for first innings points over Hawkesbury at Owen Earle Oval.

Having declared a 6-420 on the back of Steven Hobson’s unbeaten 229 and Charles Litchfield’s 94, they rolled Hawkesbury for 91 (Jonathon Craig Dobson 4-36, Lawrence Neil-Smith 4-37) in their first innings and had the hosts 7-179 (Lawrence Neil-Smith 2-13) in their second innings when stumps were drawn on day two.

The Third Grade fixture between Sydney University and Hawkesbury ended in a rare draw at Camperdown Oval.

The Students were sent into bat first on day one and declared at 9-209 on the back of solid contributions from Jack Hill (39), Ryan Danne (36) and Kevin Jacob (34).

Hawkesbury were cruising to first innings points when they reached 4-202 before the rot set in and they lost 6-7 to finish all out for 209, with No.11 Tyson Beatty run out without facing a ball, going for the winning run.

Hawkesbury collected first innings points in Fourth and Fifth grades in a very competitive round.
