Sydney University Athletic Club’s Marina Carrier won her first senior Australian Modern Pentathlon Championship in Melbourne last weekend.
The former Youth Olympian amassed a huge points total over the five events in a dominant display, winning both the swim and run/shoot events and the swimming. Carrier was 2nd in the Horse riding and 3rd in the fencing.
The combined run/shoot was the standout event for Carrier. Her time, although on a non-ratified course of 12 minutes and 1 second, was less than a second outside the current world junior record for the event.
Carrier will get to test her skills when she travels to Germany in five weeks time for a series of meets against tough European competition and in August will contest the World Junior Championships in Hungary.
