Sydney University skipper Nick Larkin led from the front with a century on the opening day of the two-day match against Eastern Suburbs at University Oval on Saturday.

The opener posted a patient 120 off 230 balls, with 12 boundaries, in Sydney University’s 7(dec)-390. Eastern Suburbs were 15 without loss at stumps.

Larkin shared a 96-run first wicket stand with Damien Mortimer (61) and a 119-run second wicket stand with Ashton May (39). Liam Robertson chipped in with 50 off 58 balls to allow the skipper to declare with four overs to bowl before the close.

It was Larkin’s second century in a run-laden season. He posted an unbeaten 206 in the Round 3 win over Manly-Warringah. And with scores of two in the season opener against Campbelltown-Camden, 87 against St George and 30 against Hawkesbury he now has 445 runs at an average of 111.3 in the Belvidere Cup season.

Sydney University Second Grade mirrored the First XI with a declaration late on day one.

A 144-run opening partnership between Jack Holloway (131) and former First Grade skipper Will Hay (85) helped the Students reach 8-366 before they declared at Waverley Oval.

Kieran Elley then bowled opener James Deacon to have Eastern Suburbs 1-29 at stumps on day one.

Holloway hit 20 boundaries in his 209-ball stay, while Hay cracked 12 picket ticklers in his 113-ball innings.

Sydney University Third Grade have already secured first innings points at St Paul’s College Oval.

The Students rolled Eastern Suburbs for 56 and were 6-192 in reply at stumps on day one.
