It’s been another great weekend of results for Sydney Uni Athletics Club.

Jenny Blundell sizzled in the 1500m, stomping home to beat the best 1500m field assembled this year to win the Melbourne World Challenge meet. Blundell possesses a withering final burst which she unleashed with 200 to go on Saturday night; no doubt this will come in handy at the Olympic trial in one month’s time. The win (her 3rd consecutive) confirms her place as a serious contender for a spot on the team for Rio.

Michelle Jenneke had another win in the 100 hurdles in Melbourne running 13.14 which was her 2nd fastest time of the season. Jenneke is getting back into career best form at the right time of the season with the Olympic trial in four weeks’ time and the world indoor championships in Portland before that.

In other events at the Melbourne World Challenge Annie Rubie was 3rd in the 400m, Nicola McDermott was 3rd in the high jump with a leap of 1.83m. Katrina Blackett was 4th in the javelin recording her best throw at this level of competition.  Paige Campbell ran a personal best of 10.18 in the 3000m steeplechase which was a personal best. Nick van gelder was 6th in the men’s Long Jump in a Season’s best. matt dempsey was 12th in the 1500m.

In the Mens 5000m walk Brendon reading walked a personal best and SUAC club record to finish 6th. This weekend’s action moves to Perth with athletes competing at the Perth Tour meet and the Australian Junior Championships.
