Women’s First Grade have finished their season undefeated after 18 rounds, with a 1-1 draw against 2nd Place Moorebank.
To finish with a draw is a frustrating result this close to the finals, however, acutely aware that they are going to play Moorebank again next week in the Major Semi, the team did not want to show too many cards.
Coach, Ben Chiarella, wanted the players to have a good run against a quality opposition, in a number of positions.
“I took the opportunity to play a different structure and rest several key players with niggling injuries,” Chiarella said.
Confident in their preparation this week, with the added bonus of seeing how Moorebank play the field, Uni know what to expect and where they need to improve.
The time of the Major Semi on Sunday the 6th of September at 2:30pm v Moorebank at Olympic Field Homebush is sure to showcase scintillating hockey from two very good teams.
Whoever can hold their nerve over the next three weeks will walk away with the Premiership.
Moorebank are a good team, and as reigning Premiers, they know how to play finals hockey. Meanwhile, Uni are the minor Premiers with a lot of experience.
Womens 2nd Grade have also managed to finish 4th under the guidance of Coach, Tim Smith, after missing the finals last year.
The girls have rebuilt well this year under Tim’s watchful eye and are raring to go come next week and in the Minor Semi. Stepping into the role of 2nd Grade Coach this season, Tim has blooded several younger players and has built a really good base for years to come.
The 2nd Grade Minor Semi will be played on Sunday the 6th of September at 10:30am v UNSW at Olympic Field, Homebush.
