  3. 7 SUAC athletes qualify for World Championships

The Australian team for the 2015 IAAF World Championships held in Beijing has been finalised and there will be no shortage of SUAC athletes competing.

Incredibly, SUAC will have seven athletes competing in a total team of 48. This level of representation sets a club record.

The competing athletes are:

Nick Hough (110m hurdles)

Shelly Jenneke (100m hurdles)

Ella Nelson (200m)

Annie Rubie (400m, 4x400m)

Emily Brichacek (5000m)

James Nipperess (3000 Steeplechase)

Joshua Ralph (800m)

Additionally, SUAC alumni and former Syd Uni EAP scholarship holder, Madeleine Heiner, will also be competing in the 3000m steeplechase and the 5000m.

In other news, at the City2Surf held on Sunday August 9, SUAC’s Danielle Allen finished 2nd overall in the women’s event running a very slick 47 minutes for the 14.1km, especially impressive considering she is studying medicine. SUAC’s Milly Clark was 4th. In the men’s race SUAC’s highest place finisher was Jack Colreavy who was 11th, Colreavy was fortunate though to be the fastest entrant of a competition that sees him driving a brand new BMW for the next seven days, all he had to do was be the fastest man up the infamous Heartbreak Hill.

Meanwhile, SUAC lead both the men’s and women’s events in the Winter Premiership with two rounds remaining. In the men’s event, SUAC are 22 points clear of rivals Randwick Botany Harriers. In the women’s premiership, SUAC are now 30 points clear of Athletics Easts. In the Distance runner of the Year pointscore Milly Clark has a commanding lead, with Jack Colreavy sitting currently in 4th place in the men’s pointscore.

The next event on the NSW Winter Calendar is the NSW Half Marathon Championships held in a fortnight’s time.
