Gold Coast Suns inflicted a 15-point upset over Sydney University in their Round 13 North East AFL clash at Blacktown International Sports Park on Saturday.
The eighth-placed Suns took full advantage of a poor kicking performance from Sydney University to run up a 67-52 win and keep the Students on the fifth rung of the ladder.
Sydney University had 22 shots at goal but could only muster six majors, while the Suns potted 10 of their 17 shots, with Peter Wright leading the way with six goals.
UWS Giants maintained the competition lead on 40 points, on percentage from Aspley (40), with Northern Territory Thunder (32), Sydney Swans (28), Sydney University (24) and Redland (20) making up the top six.
Sydney University have the opportunity to move into the top four in the next two weeks when they take on the two bottom-of-the-table teams, starting with 11th placed Eastlake at Star Track (Manuka) Oval, Canberra on Saturday, July 11, followed by last-placed Brisbane Lions at Blacktown International Sports Park on Sunday, July 19.
