Sydney University Elite Athlete and scholarship holder Chloe Dalton has qualified to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games representing Australia in the Women’s Rugby 7’s team. This will be the first time Rugby 7’s will be played at an Olympic level after the profile of the sport has grown significantly across the globe in recent years.
Competing in Amsterdam against Russia, China and England, Dalton and her Australian side beat out each of their opponents to secure Olympic qualification after round one of their international tournament at NRCA stadium. The will now face Russia in the Cup Semi Final.
Dalton’s story is particularly amazing when you consider she has only been playing Rugby 7’s for 18 months. Originally a basketballer, representing the Sydney Uni Flames in the WNBL, Chloe decided to try something new and found her talent and athleticism transferred seamlessly to the new sport. She will compete in a number of other international tournaments in the lead up to the Olympic Games.
