Sydney University triathlete Emma Jeffcoat, 20, finished second overall in the elite female 5km Sydney 10 road race at Olympic Park on Saturday.

The SUSF Elite Athlete Program scholarship holder won the 20 and over event in 17min 58sec, but was pipped in the overall title by 16-year-old Sutherland runner Jessica Guo, who won the 16-17 event in 17:41. Beth Croft, 18, of Bankstown Sports, won the 18-19 event in 17:58 to finish third overall.

“I managed to pull together a good race to come 2nd overall,” Jeffcoat, a Bachelor of Advanced Nursing student, said. “It was a very solid field, so it was a very pleasing result leading into the next block of triathlon racing and trip to Africa for the continental championships in June.”
