Sydney University men won their fourth consecutive Winter Premiership on the weekend with a win at the NSW Half Marathon Championships. The men were represented by Lachlan Chisholm (2nd), Pete Costello (3rd), Alex Williamson (5th), Andrew Heil (19th) and Mark Abercromby (32nd).
It was another dominant performance by the men in the ANSW Winter Premiership where there are still two rounds of competition left. The Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) men are 74 points clear of their nearest rival Sutherland who mathematically cannot pass SUAC.
The men’s team has posted the following performances throughout the winter season, finishing second or higher in every event on the calendar.
Novice Cross Country- 1st
Sydney 10- 2nd
NSW Cross Country Relays – 2nd
NSW Cross Country Championships -1st
NSW Mountain Running Championships- 2nd
NSW Road Relays- 2nd
NSW Half Marathon Champs- 1st
NSW Short Course Cross Country- 1st
In the race for the women’s Winter Premiership the SUAC women are equal first with Athletic Easts. As with the men, are two rounds remaining, the NSW Marathon Championships on 21 September and the Fernleigh 15 on 19 October.
The SUAC women finished equal first on the weekend in the NSW Half Marathon Championships but were relegated to 2nd place on a count back despite posting a faster, quicker time than the team from Athletics Easts. The women’s team were represented by Claire Miles who finished 1st in the 20-35 year age group followed by Rosie Weber who finished 2nd. Milly Clark finished 6th and Georgina Pembroke finished 12th. As in previous years, it looks to be a very tight race to the finish.
