  3. Narrow miss for students in the NEAFL

Although Sydney Uni’s premier men’s AFL team has narrowly missed out on the finals, the team should be proud of its most successful season resulting in a 7th placed finish.

Despite a strong run home toward the finals, Sydney Uni remained just outside of the top six for most of the season and after a defeat by Redlands, it was confirmed there would not be a final series berth.

Given the number of new players in the 2014 season, the team has done well against some extremely tough competition, with a number of clubs filled with full time professional players.

Sydney Uni has only been competing in the NEAFL competition since 2012, where they previously finished 8th on both occasions, making this their most successful season in this AFL grade.

The team finished the season with a strong win on Saturday, beating Southport 65 to 51.

Head of AFL, Tristan Liles was pleased with the side’s continued development. He believes “the season was a positive sign of things to come for a side who will continue to work together over the off season to become a real finals threat in 2015”.

The club has five teams still alive in their relative finals series competitions which will be held over the weekend.
