Despite suffering a loss at the hands of the UTS Tigers in round 7 of the NSW Tertiary Cup, the Sydney Uni Lions still sit in third place on the division one ladder.

Playing at Henson Park in front of a number of past players and club stalwarts as part of the club’s rejuvenation celebration evening, Sydney Uni started the better of the two teams and even lead at half-time, before eventually going down 44-28.

There were a number of excellent tries scored in the first half by the Lions, including four-pointers from Steve Tziotis, Jay Parker and Adam Harber. An additional try to Graham Harris extended the lead in the second half. However some costly errors and silly penalties allowed UTS far too much possession in the last 20 minutes to run away with the game.

Outstanding performances were put in by Adam Harber and Tom Williams, while Steve Tziotis and SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Gideon Mzembe continued with their excellent form this year. The Kobe Jones Man of the Match was awarded to Adam Harber. Adam receives a $100 voucher to Kobe Jones.

The team will use this game as a valuable learning exercise on how to close out a game and hold onto a lead.

Sydney Uni’s division two team was enjoying a well-deserved bye this week after their win against ADFA last week.
