The Sydney Uni Rugby League Football Club (SURLFC) had a great weekend at Henson Park, with both the Firsts and Seconds posting strong wins against the Norwest Polecats.
The Firsts defeated the Polecats 64-12, with the side notching its first victory of the maiden season back in the competition.
The victory was especially sweet considering the recent narrow defeats the side had faced. The hard work at training the lads have been put through in the last few weeks paid off superbly, with the offensive qualities of the side in full show. Doubles to Jay Parker, Gideon Mzembe and Steve Tziotis led the scoring feast of 11 tries. Captain Brendan Lee kicked 10 goals and scored a try. Top performances from current NSW Universities representative Scott Bunch and Adam Sarkis meant the game was effectively in the bag by half time with a score of 34-6.
The Kobe Jones Man of the Match was Jay Parker, who’ll receive his $100 gift voucher courtesy of Kobe Jones.
The Seconds kept up their winning run with Marcus McCarthy (three tries), Kingi Ngatai (two) amd Adam Irvine (two) leading the charge, ably supported with some solid kicking (eight goals) from King. The side dominated from start to finish, with the defensive qualities of the side keeping the Polecats to nil for the entire game. Once again, the strength of the performance shows the strong work ethic of the side, showing the all-round capabilities of the squad and a great reminder to the coach that there are a number of players pressing their claim to play for the Firsts.
The Kobe Jones Man of the Match in second division was Kingi Ngatai who’ll receive his $100 gift voucher courtesy of Kobe Jones.
