The Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) has amassed an almost unbeatable points lead in both the men’s and women’s competitions after an incredible day one of the NSW Club Championships.

Held on Saturday at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC), the SUAC women scored a whopping 403 points, with UTS Norths in second position on 115 points.

In the men’s competition, SUAC scored 409 points, with UTS Norths again in second position on 194 points.

SUAC were well represented in every event, recording twelve first placing’s, five second placing’s and five third placing’s. Showcasing the depth of the club, SUAC’s worst placing across all the events was fifth.

Event winners on the day included SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holders Jarrod Geddes (100m, Bachelor of Exercise & Sports Science), Annie Rubie (400m, Bachelor of Liberal Arts & Sciences), Milly Clark (steeplechase, Bachelor of Applied Science/Masters of Nutrition), Christina Grun (javelin, Bachelor of Education {Secondary HMHE}), Shakti Rathore (triple jump, Bachelor of Science) and Alix Kennedy (discus, Bachelor of Commerce/Law).

Fellow SUAC’s representatives Josh Ralph (400m), Jack Colreavy (steeplechase), Amy Pejkovic (high jump and triple jump) and the men’s and women’s 4x100m teams also achieved victories in the warm weather.

The standout performances of the day came from Kennedy in the discus and Josh Ralph in the men’s 400m. Kennedy, who was having her first throw back from surgery, narrowly missed the qualifier for the Commonwealth Games, while Ralph ran the fastest 400m time in Australia this season.

Day 2 of the NSW Club Championships will be held on the 1st of February at SOPAC. This weekend SUAC athletes will turn their attention to the Hunter Track Classic in Newcastle.
