Sydney Uni Soccer Football Club (SUSFC) and Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF) is proud to announce that former Socceroos Coach Raul Blanco has signed on to be the Head Coach of the clubs SUPA IGA NPL NSW Men’s 2 1st Grade Squad for Season 2014.
Blanco served in various roles within Australia’s national program for over 20 years, including stints as assistant coach under Eddie Thompson and Terry Venables before taking on the head Socceroos coaching role from 1998 to 1999. He was also coach of the Olyroos, coaching them during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. More recently Blanco was employed by New Zealand Football as a technical assistant in their successful campaign to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
In an historic moment for the club, Blanco’s appointment reflects the commitment and the desire that the SUSFC has to play at the highest level of football in NSW in seasons to come. Blanco has already commenced work with the club, having been unveiled to our senior players over the course of the last month.
“We are really proud of the players that we’ve produced and the style of football that we’ve played at 1st Grade level over recent years’ said SUSFC President, Mr Andrew Bray.
“However, the consistency required to challenge for silverware has been elusive. Raul’s experience, understanding and strategic knowledge of the game takes our coaching intellect to the next level and as a club we are enthusiastically looking forward to working with him next season.”
“For our current senior players, this appointment presents a very unique opportunity to work with a coach of Raul’s experience. For our current coaches and managers, Raul represents a world-class in-house mentor. Raul’s expectations and professionalism will set a new benchmark which we hope will filter throughout the Club to create a culture that delivers successful football”.
