The Sydney Uni Women’s Water Polo Club (SUWWPC) has received a huge boost with news that the club will have three representatives in the Australian team to participate in the World Championships in Barcelona in July.

Lion’s goalkeeper Lea Barta, driver Keesja Gofers and centre-back Hannah Buckling have held their places in the Stingers team after the recent World League Finals in Beijing.

Gofers is also a SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder.

The Australian team will prepare for the World’s in a 4 Nation Tournament in Portugalete, Spain from July 12-14, before moving onto Barcelona for the World Championships from July 20 – August 4.

The Lions National League squad also will have representatives in the Australian Born ’95/’96 squad to tour Canada and the United States in August with Australian Schoolgirls representative Tahlia Bogg and Emma Lewis named to make their junior national team debuts.

This follows-on from the naming of two more Lions, Bronte Halligan and Kristy Donkin in the Australian Born ’96 team that will undertake a month-long tour of Germany, Holland, Hungary and Greece in August and September.

SUWWPC’s Director of Coaching of Ian Trent is thrilled with the selection of so many of the club’s representatives in the national set-up.

“All of the overseas experience to be gained by the Lions girls will be invaluable for the group’s development in the sport and hopefully will be evident in performances in next season’s National League season,” said Trent.
