Sydney University registered their third win in four weeks after brushing aside Labrador by 38 points in the NEAFL at Drummoyne Oval on Saturday.

The Students, who now sit just two wins outside of a finals position, started strongly with a five goal first quarter and went into the break leading 5.4-34 to 2.1-13.

However a six goal second quarter from Queensland opposition Labrador brought them right back into the game, as Sydney Uni led by just nine points at the main break.

A more disciplined second half from the Students allowed them to pull away and win 18.13-121 to 13.5-83.

Co-Captain Ryan Silvester was suitably happy with the four competition points, but also well aware of that the Students still had some areas that needed work. “We certainly didn’t play our best football but still came away with a convincing win, which was pleasing”, explained Silvester.

Silvester was quick to single out team mates Adam Campbell and Gerard Wilkie, who once again put in impressive performances. “Adam Campbell and Gerard Wilkie continued their run of outstanding form and it is great to play with guys like those two”, said Silvester.

Campbell and Timothy Barton were the Students leading scorers with three goals each, while Tim Barrett, Thomas Elkington, Etiosa Okunbor and Alex O’Dea all contributed with two of their own.

Sydney Uni have a bye this weekend before they face an impressive Belconnen outfit, who currently sit second on the table. The Magpies were brought back down to earth after the Sydney Swans reserves defeated them by 91 points over the weekend and put an end to an impressive streak of wins that began in April.

The Students take on Belconnen at home on Sydney Uni Oval No. 1 on Saturday June 15 at 2pm.
