Despite the absence of a number of athletes away on international duty, the Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) performed strongly at the second leg of the Winter Premiership – the ‘Sydney: 10’ – on Saturday morning at Sydney Olympic Park.
In the women’s 10km race SUAC placed first in the team’s event. Milly Clark finished third overall, exciting newcomer Natalia Archer came seventh, while Ruby Hackett and Eliza Barton finished ninth and 22nd respectively. Clark (Bachelor Applied Science with Masters of Nutrition), Archer ((Bachelor of Science) and Barton (Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary BioScience) are SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holders.
In the men’s 10km event the SUAC team finished second, with Hugh Williams leading the charge and finishing in sixth place. Nick Bellemore was 19th, Modern Pentathlon Olympian Ed Fernon 23rd and Miles Waring 33rd. Williams (Bachelor of Physiotherapy), Ed Fernon (Masters of Commerce) and Miles Waring 33rd (Bachelor of Economics) are SUSF EAP scholarship holders.
SUSF EAP scholarship holder Jenny Blundell (Bachelor of Exercise Physiology) finished fourth in the women’s 5km event.
The next stage of the Winter Premiership sees SUAC contest the NSW X-Country Relays held at Miranda on June 3rd.
