Sydney University’s Women’s Water Polo (SUWWPC) team put themselves into finals contention with a solid National League double over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Lions put on a powerful second half display to demolish the UNSW Killer Whales 8-3. Gabby Wikman and Jo Whitehorn both scored trebles for the home side who were never threatened after half time.
Sydney Uni then had to recover and take a Sunday morning bus ride past the Central Coast up to Newcastle where they were too good for the Hunter Hurricanes 10-6. A couple of missed penalties and some complacency saw Hunter stay in the game in the second half after the Lions had threatened a blow out at 6-1. Gabby Wikman took her weekend tally to nine with six goals, whilst Keesja Gofers hit two.
The Lions now have four games remaining and they take on fellow contenders the UWA Torpedoes at home on Saturday at 1.00pm and Sunday at 2.30pm. Both are crunch games for both teams.
