There will be more than just four NEAFL points up for grabs this weekend, as SUANFC looks to defend their ownership of the Gordon/Physick Cup against the Hills Eagles on Saturday night at Bruce Purser Reserve.

The Gordon/Physick Cup celebrates the work of the invaluable volunteers who support both clubs, with the shining examples of Harvey Gordon and Peter Physick who have provided outstanding support for SUANFC and the Hills Eagles respectively. Sydney University defeated the Eagles in the Cup’s inaugural game last season, and with both clubs only elevated to the NEAFL competition last year, this seasons game is sure to be a gripping affair.

The Students are looking to improve upon a patchy performance in their first competitive fixture of the 2013 season against Belconnen last week. They will head into this Saturday’s game aware that they face a tough cross city rival who will be desperate to improve on their surprise loss last year and pick up their first competition points for the season.

SUANFC’s Senior NEAFL coach Daniel Gilmore is looking forward to the game and is confident that his squad can use this weekends game as a stepping stone to greater things later in the season.

“Our player group is really exited about the opportunity to take on our cross city rivals on Saturday night,” explained Gilmore.

“Not only are we keen to address some elements of our game that came out of round one, we are also aiming to continue to practice a level of excellence in our game style application,” said Gilmore.

Gilmore is also pleased that Sydney University will once again play for the Gordon/Physick Cup as he considers both men to be local legends in Sydney AFL.

SUANFC encourages all supporters to head out to Bruce Purser Reserve in Kellyville on Saturday night for the 7pm kick off.
