SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Josh Beard swum incredibly strongly in the 30th annual Cole Classic, finishing just four-tenths of a second behind winner Ollie Signorini.

Signorini finished the 2km ocean swim in 25 minutes and 18 seconds, with Beard – a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise of Physiology) student at the University of Sydney – hot on his heels in second place.

Finishing in third place was former SUSF scholarship holder and three-time Olympian Chris Fydler. Fydler was part of Australia’s famous 4 x 100m freestyle relay team that defeated the United States and won gold in the prestigious event, alongside Michael Klim, Ian Thorpe and Ashley Callus.

In the 1km women’s event SUSF scholarship holder Keesja Gofers finished second. Gofers, an Australian Stingers water polo representative, is currently playing for the Sydney University Women’s Water Polo Club (SUWWP) in the National Water Polo League.
