A pair of goals mid-way through the second half sealed a 3-nil win for Sydney University over Fraser Park at Hensley Athletic Field on Saturday.
It was the first defeat in four rounds for Fraser Park, while the Students recorded their second win in three matches to move to fifth on the competition ladder behind Bankstown Berries, Northern Tigers, Fraser Park FC and Spirit FC.
After a scoreless first half, Sydney University put Fraser Park to the sword in the second stanza after Jason Garrido scored soon after the break.
The visitors were reduced to 10-men soon after when Nicola Pozder was red-carded and Sydney University made the most of the situation.
Garrido added a second with a long-range shot from outside the box midway through the half, and one minute later Matt Demetriou put the issue beyond doubt with a left-foot shot past keeper Michael Frost.
Sydney University coach John Calleja was happy with the performance. “We started off reasonably well and peppered them in the first half although there weren’t any close chances, really,” he said.
“Most of them were set pieces. But we had a good attitude going into it and overall it was a decent performance. That is the second time this year we have played against 10 in the second half, and we played better this time, compared to the Spirit game.”
