Sydney Uni netball representative Billie Gurr has been selected in the Australian Under 17 squad following her exceptional performance at the Under 17 National Netball Championships in Launceston, Tasmania.

Gurr, and her fellow NSW team mates defeated defending champions Victoria 38-28 in the Grand Final to win NSW’s first Under 17 National title since 2007.

NSW was the dominant team all week and finished the tournament undefeated.

“I’m so excited and proud of the girls and their efforts,” NSW Head Coach Lenore Blades said.

“They performed brilliantly in the finals after a long week.”

Fellow CSNA/Sydney Uni netballer Gemma Ferrington was part of the NSW squad that finished runners-up at the Championships after a great battle against Victoria, with scores finishing 27-19.

In other news the CSNA/Sydney Uni netball team have been defeated by 6th placed St George in the fifth round of the Waratah Cup, but not before they gave their opponents a real fright.

Despite going down 42-37, Uni dominated most of the match-up. The girls were fired up in the first quarter and built a nice lead. The game was more even in the second half, but Uni still went to half-time in the lead. Despite some tired legs in the third quarter, CSNA/Sydney Uni were ahead going into the final quarter. A very even fourth quarter ensued, but the girls were unable to finish St George off, eventually going down by 5 goals.
