Former Sydney University Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Kaarle McCulloch won silver at the 2012 UCI Track Cycling Championships in Melbourne.
The first day of the championships saw McCulloch join compatriot Anna Meares in the women’s team sprint, with the duo aiming for four straight world championship gold medals.
However, after making it through to the final the Australians were pipped at the post by their German competitors, narrowly missing out on gold by 0.04 seconds as Germany clocked a new world record.
McCulloch then continued her strong results by finishing fourth in the women’s 500m time trial.
The Australian Olympic Cycling team will be announced in late June.
