Universities Women’s Cricket Club (UWCC), backed by both Sydney University and University of NSW, will be one of hundreds of community cricket clubs across Australia participating in Pink Stumps Day 2012, an initiative of the McGrath Foundation and Cricket Cares, Cricket Australia’s community action program.
UWCC is holding its Pink Stumps Day on Sunday February 12, where it will play two side by side games at the redeveloped University of New South Wales, David Phillips Ovals.
On David Phillips North, Universities Women’s 1st grade will play in a 50 over match against the reigning premiers Bankstown, commencing at 11am.
This game will see Australian Southern Star and UWCC players Alex Blackwell and Rachael Haynes rejoin their teammates after a successful international series against New Zealand.
Also in the UWCC team will be current and former state representative players, Alison Parkin, Kara Sutherland, Kate Owen, Erin Burns, Caitlin Rawstron, Emily Mifsud and Georgia Redmayne.
Bankstown will no doubt be looking to play their International and State players including Sharon Millanta, Sarah Aley and Tayla Kafoa.
Next door, David Phillips South, commencing at 12:30pm, Universities Women’s Brewer Shield (U/17) team will host Bankstown in a 40 over match in what is shaping up to be great viewing.
UWCC will no doubt be led by Renee Hebden and current NSW U/15 players Rahcel Li and Clara Iemma who along with the whole team are in great form at present.
UWCC players will be wearing pink caps and pink stumps will be used. UWCC are inviting supporters, friends and family to wear pink on the day and we have arranged a Pink Stumps fundraising BBQ.
Volunteers will roam the field with a collection tin for donations and temporary tattoos in exchange for a gold coin donation to help pink up the club!
Local media, sportsman and celebrities have all been invited to the day to enjoy a great day of cricket and to raise money for such a worthy cause.
Entry to the games is free, with all proceeds raised on the day going directly to the McGrath Foundation.
