The Sydney Uni Men’s handball team has qualified to be the Oceania representatives at the 2012 Superglobe tournament after winning the Region’s Club Championships in Tahiti last week.

After numerous tight games; three draws and two wins in the main round of competition, the team managed to edge into the final by defeating tournament favourites, New Caledonian club AS Dumbea.

This set up a grand final meeting against AS Dragon of Tahiti, a team that they had a 10-10 draw against in the main round.

Due to numerous injuries in the first half, Sydney Uni were four goals behind at half time. Not phased by the deficit, the boys then found their rhythm and leveled the game up quickly in the second half. The game was tight up until a minute to go when Sydney Uni were able to get the decisive.

To top of an incredible tournament by the boys, Sydney Uni also took out the top awards, with players from the team winning Best Goalkeeper, Top Goalscorer and MVP of the tournament.

Winning this tournament entitles Sydney Uni Handball to send a team to Superglobe in Qatar in 2012. Superglobe is an international Club Championship, where the best clubs and players from each continent are represented.
