Nine members of Sydney University’s Women’s Australian Football Club helped NSW to win the Division 2 title at the Women’s AFL National Championships held in Adelaide last week.

NSW went through the round matches undefeated to earn a place in the final where they defeated the ACT in the final after coming from behind to win the match with a blistering final quarter (7.10.52 to 6.3.39). The win earns the NSW team promotion to Division 1 for the next National Championships, held in 2013.

Sydney University stars Libby Sadler and Marie Keating played were rewarded for outstanding performances with selection in the All Australian team. Sadler also took out the honour of highest goal scorer in Division 2 for the tournament.

All nine members will return to club competition in top form, and keen to continue their success at club level. Sydney University Women’s team is currently in second place on the SWAFL ladder with a 5-1 record in 2011.  Buoyed by the return of their successful representative players to training this week, the team will continue its charge for the 2011 championship.
