Sydney University’s 17-year-old ruckman, Craig Moller ,made a memorable senior debut on Saturday, kicking five goals in the Students’ 88-point win over Campbelltown in their Sydney Premier League AFL clash at Blacktown Olympic Park.
Moller, a Year 11 student at Sydney Boys High School, is in his second season with Sydney University. He was a regular member of the Under 18 Premier Cup side last year when he represented NSW Under 16s and was named player of the national championships. He will be representing NSW in the Under 18s at this year’s championships.
While the 203cm Moller was collecting a handful of goals, Tim Barrett kicked four, Sam Crichton kicked three, and Adam Campbell, Alexander Lee and Max Carter each bagged two in the 21.11 (137) to 7.7 (49) result.
Only one kick separated the sides at the first change, but the Students took control in the second term with a run of four goals extending the margin to 24 points at the long break.
The visitors emerged the stronger side after the break, and although the Blues fought hard they couldn’t prevent the Students running up a seven-goal lead at the last change. As Campbelltown’s resistance crumbled, the Students ran up another nine goals in the final term.
Lee, Jack Caspersonn and Anton Turco were prominent performers for the Students, while Kane Clark, Bryce Martin and Kurt Hanson turned in strong performances for the hosts.
All roads will lead to Sydney University this week for Ladies Day, when the club hosts St George for a super Saturday of football.
With seven games scheduled for the day, SUANFC will utilise No.1 Oval and St Paul’s College Oval. The women’s match will commence at noon, First Grade is scheduled for a 4.10pm start and the Under 18s under lights at 7pm.
