Sydney University Football Club halves pairing Luke Burgess and Berrick Barnes guided the Wallabies to an extremely hard fought victory over English Premiership team the Leicester Tigers on Wednesday morning.
Playing in bitterly cold and gusty conditions, Wallabies captain Berrick Barnes booted three penalty goals, one field goal and two conversions to lead the Wallabies home in a tight contest in which they led 13-12 at half time.
Australia scored one try in either half- the first a Lachie Turner touchdown set up by a dashing run by Luke Burgess.
In the second half, Coach Robbie Deans introduced fellow students Dean Mumm and Pat McCutcheon (making his Wallabies debut).
Sydney Uni’s third interchange player Nick Phipps will look forward to another opportunity to impress after not making it on to the field.
