Sydney University’s Mark Egan kicked eight goals in a best-on-ground performance as the Students cruised to a 64-point win over Campbelltown in their Premier League clash at a wet Henson Park on Sunday.
The 19.18 (132) to 9.14 (68) win lifted Sydney University to third on the competition ladder and took Egan’s goal tally to 29 after nine rounds.
East Coast Eagles head the ladder from Western Suburbs and Sydney University. The three teams sit on 28 points but the Eagles and Wests lead the Students on percentages. North Shore (24) and Pennant Hills (20) make up the top five.
Egan opened his account with three goals in the first quarter as the Students took a 21-point lead into the break. But it was the second quarter when he took charge, slotting another four as Sydney University set up a 49-point lead at the main break.
The visitors hit back early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 33 points before the Students regained their momentum. Cambelltown kicked five goals to win the final quarter but the Students had established an unassailable lead.
The Students were well served by Nicholas Barton, Adam McConnochie, Anton Turco, Alexander Lee and Tim Barton, while the visitors had solid performances from Matthew Keys, Dale Chivas, Radlee Moller, Matthew Edwins, Shane Doherty and Ryan Bottin-Noonan.
In the lower grades, Sydney University are third on the Division One ladder behind Manly-Warringah and UTS; fourth on the Division Two ladder behind Southern Power, UTS and Holroyd-Parramatta; 10th on the Division Three ladder that is headed by Moorebank Sports; eighth on the Division Four ladder that is headed by Auburn; and third on the Under 18 Premier Cup ladder behind North Shore and Pennant Hills.
