In a week where some of the biggest names in Australian Swimming are competing for a spot on the Australian Swimming Team, 8 year old Lewis Blackburn was leading the way in the Speedo Sprint Series Final.
After becoming the first Sydney Uni Swimmer to qualify for all four sprint finals, Blackburn won the Backstroke final and lowered his “Metro South East Area” record when he recorded a time of 41.70. In a show of strength, Blackburn also placed 6th in the Butterfly, 18th in the Breaststroke narrowly missed another podium spot when he finished 4th in the Freestyle.
Coach Vanessa Smith said “The Speedo sprint series is conducted in all four strokes for swimmers aged 8 to 13 only over the 50 meter distance.” “A number of strong performances and personal bests and are good way to finish the summer long course season” she added.
