Sydney University Football Club captain Tim Davidson capped off a wonderful season when he was named the club’s best and fairest player for 2008 at the annual awards night held at Tattersall’s Club on Saturday night.
Davidson, the first player in the history of the club to captain four successive First Grade premiership teams, was also awarded the Michael Griffin Cup as the players’ player for 2008.
The only downside to the number eight’s season has been the lack of contact from Australia’s four Super 14 franchises. Despite his consistent form and leadership, Davidson does not have a Super 14 contract for 2009.
Davidson led by example throughout the season and was one of the standout players in Sydney University’s 45-20 win over Randwick in the 2008 Shute Shield decider.
The best and fairest Colt for 2008 is outside-centre Michael Hodge, whose defensive efforts in First Grade Colts’ grand final win over Eastern Suburbs was out of the top shelf.
