Sydney University athletes Jessica Heazlewood and Lachlan Renshaw were rewarded for strong seasons when they won awards at the Athletics NSW Annual Dinner on Saturday night.

Heazlewood, who won 5000m walk at the 2007 Australian University Games and finished 7th in the 20km road walk at the 2008 Australian Championships, received the Doris Clarke Award for Female Distance Walker of the Year.

Renshaw, who earned a berth to Beijing with the Australian Athletics team when he won the 800m title at the Australian Track and Field Championships last month, was awarded the Open Middle Distance Athlete of the Year category.

Three other Sydney University Athletics Club members: Nikki Molan (middle distance), Justin Merlino (sprints and hurdles) and Lara Tamsett (cross country), were short-listed for awards.
