Universities Women’s Cricket Club will meet Bankstown in the final of the Sydney Women’s Grade competition after comprehensively accounting for Sydney in their semi-final at the weekend.
Batting first, the Students were all out for 160 off 49.4 overs, with Rosamond Kember (70), Kate Owen (23) and Sara Hungerford (23) contributing the bulk of the runs.
Jenny Gunn (3-29) and Gizelle Van Der Mewe (2-34) were the best of the Sydney bowlers.
Defending the small total, Universities bowlers turned up the heat and dismissed Sydney for 126 off 44.3 overs.
Owen backed up her effort with the bat by taking 3-28, while Samantha Hinton (2-5) and Lizzy Farrell (2-25) also contributed. Tamara Roach (26) and Jenny Gunn (18) topscored for Sydney.
Universities will meet Bankstown in the final and Bankstown Oval, starting at 11am on Sunday. Bankstown progressed to the final after tying with Wallsend in their semi-final. The minor premiers were all out for 115 and had Wallsend 9-115 off the allocated 50 overs.
Universities will be without Lisa Sthalekar and the Blackwell twins, Alex and Kate, who are in New Zealand with the Australia Southern Stars contesting the Rose Bowl against New Zealand.
