Sydney Uni Flames and Townsville Fire, the only unbeaten teams after six games of the 2011-12 Women’s National Basketball League, will come head-to-head at Townsville RSL Stadium on Saturday night.

The Flames kept their unbeaten streak alive at Sydney University Sports and Fitness Centre on Saturday night when they accounted for AIS 84-61, but not before some hiccups on the way.

And the Fire remained unbeaten with a comfortable 98-74 win over West Coast at the Western Australia Basketball Centre on the same night.

The winner of this Saturday night’s top-of-the-table clash can put a handy break on the rest of the field, many of whom have played seven games.

Although the AIS came to Sydney winless, and were an early victim of the Flames in this competition, they gave a strong account of themselves at SUSFC. Indeed the scores were tied 42 apiece at half-time before the Flames turned on a committed third term to establish a winning lead.

Belinda Snell once again led the way for the Flames with 23 points to go along with six rebounds. Katie-Rae Ebzery added 19 points and Amy Denson 16 points, while point guard Alicia Poto finished with 10 points, eight assists and eight rebounds.

The AIS were led by Carley Mijovic with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Sara Blicavs added 14 points and Rosie Fadljevic 11 points, and Olivia Thompson pulled down 10 boards.
