The Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) continues to lead the Athletics NSW Open Age Pennant Competition after the completion of last weekend’s round at Campbelltown, marking the half way point of the competition.
SUAC sit on top the table with 2314 points, with UTS Norths in second position with 1344 points and Bankstown Sports third on 1151 points.
In very hot conditions Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF) scholarship holder Joanna Cubis recorded personal best times at both 1500m and 400m, continuing her enormous contribution to this competition.
The men’s 100m saw a return to form by SUAC 100m runner Piyush Kumar (the former Indian national record holder and 2000m Olympian) who ran his fastest time in six years and then backed up with a very strong leg in the men’s 4x200m relay later in the afternoon.
Joshuah Ralph produced a season’s best in the 400m, finishing second and continuing on with the good form he has displayed in his debut season with the club.
In the day’s only distance event Russell Dessaix-Chin produced an impressive 5000m late in the day to post a victory, cracking the 15 minute barrier with ease.
This weekend’s round of the competition heads to Blacktown Athletic Centre.
