A 283-run, fourth wicket partnership between captain Liam Robertson and wicketkeeper Tim Cummins helped Sydney University to a healthy position at stumps on day one of their clash with Northern District at Mark Taylor Oval on Saturday.

Tim Cummins topscored with 156, while Robertson’s 130, his second century of the season, helped Sydney University to 9-400 before declaring. The hosts were 2-3 at stumps, thanks to Joe Kershaw, and facing a tough time next Saturday.

Cummins hit 19 boundaries and a pair of sixes in his 199-ball stay, while Robertson cracked 16 boundaries in his 197-ball occupation. The skipper has now tallied 761 runs for the season at 58.54 and amassed 6574 for SUCC since the 2009-10 season.

Eastern Suburbs head the Belvidere Cup ladder on 37 points, with Sydney University (33), UTS North Sydney (32), Randwick-Petersham (31), Bankstown (31) and Northern District (30) making up the top six.
