It was another hugely successful weekend for the Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) with athletes competing at various competitions in Australia and around the world.
Both the SUAC men and women took out the teams competitions at the Sydney 10. The wins included phenomenal individual performances from Em Brichacek, who won the women’s event in a very slick 32.55. In the same race Paige Campbell smashed her personal best to finish in 3rd place, with Lara Hamilton in 6th place in the Opens event and also taking the win in the under 20 event and also running a huge personal best.
In the men’s race Bradley Croker also ran a big personal best to finish in the bronze medal position in under 30 minutes for 10km, with James Nipperess not too far behind in 7th position.
Pleasingly, 16 SUAC athletes recorded personal best times over the distance. These included the following athletes not already mentioned Luke Schofield, Dylan McCuaig Walton, Stephen Sanday, Christopher Gordon, Andrew Heil, Ben Moss, Ahmed Sultan, Holly Campbell, Sarah Marvin, Elise Abood, Emily Augustine and Kristine Wong.
After two rounds of the winter premiership the Sydney University Athletic Club sit atop the points table in both the men’s and women’s teams competitions.
In Hungary at the UIPM World Cup 3, the clubs leading senior Modern Pentathlete Marina Carrier finished 36th. The event was the 2nd consecutive event where Carrier has made it through to a World Cup final, which is an very impressive achievement considering it is her first year competing on the senior World Cup circuit.
At the World Race Walking Teams Championships held in Taicang China, Rio Olympian and SUAC record holder, Brendon Reading, finished 62nd in what were tough and very humid conditions.
SUAC athletes next compete at the NSW Cross Country Relays, where they are defending champions in both the men’s and women’s open relay.
