Sydney Uni have served a notice to their grand final opponents Balmain after thrashing Wollongong by 78 points in their AFL Sydney Women’s semi-final on Saturday.

University stormed into the grand final with a 13-6-84 to 1-0-6 win over the second placed Saints to set up a dream rematch of last year’s grand final, which Balmain won.

The University defence showed great resolve keeping Wollongong scoreless in the first half, and only letting through one scoring shot for the entire contest.

Up the other end, despite a scoreless second quarter, the University attack kicked into gear with a four goal third quarter and six goals in the final stanza. Mai Nguyen led all-comers with four goals, while Jennifer Lew and Lara Creber were others to impress.

Sydney University will have to be at their very best this weekend if they are to knock off the unbeaten Balmain Dockers. The Dockers kept that incredible record intact with a dominant 55-point win over the Western Wolves in the other semi-final.

The grand final starts at 1:10pm at Henson Park, Marrickville. Entry is just $10 for adults, and children under 16 get in for free.
