Sydney Uni swimmer, Matt Jaukovic, has narrowly missed out in his bid for the World Championships.

Jaukovic finished third in the 100m Butterfly Final at the 2009 Telstra Australian Open Championship. He placed behind Lauterstein and Pine in a time of 52.56.

Although his spirit was dampened in not making the World Championships team, Jaukovic swam a Personal Best and should make the World Uni Games team.

‘I don’t have any reason to be disappointed with the swim. I dropped point six seconds off my time, it was a good time,’ said Jaukovic.

The World Uni Games are to be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 1-12 July.

This ‘consolation’ prize is welcomed by Jaukovic who was born in Montenegro. Swimming in Serbia means his family and friends, based in Montenegro can attend the meet and, hopefully, cheer him on to glory.

Matt Jaukovic is studying a combined Economics/Law degree at Sydney University and is part of the Elite Athlete Program.
