Three Sydney University Women’s Rowing Club (SUWRC) representatives have been selected in the Australian Under 21 rowing team that will compete against New Zealand this week in Sydney.

India Evans and Candice Williams were selected from the winning women’s pair at the trials, while fellow team mate Holly Lawrence won the lightweight single to gain selection as one of two lightweight rowers.

All three girls are SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holders.

All three girls will compete against their Trans-Tasman rivals in Penrith this week, before travelling to Lake Karapiro in New Zealand in early September for a second round of races.

The U21 team will consist of nine men and nine women rowers. SUWRC coach Chris Holliday has also been selected as a coach of the Australian team.

In other rowing news, Sydney University Boat Club (SUBC) representatives and SUSF EAP scholarship holders Hamish Playfair and Peter Koster (Bachelor of Liberal Arts & Sciences) have headed to Europe with their Australian Under 23 quad rowing team mates to train and compete in some lead up races before the Under 23 World Championships begin in Austria later this month. Accompanying them is SUBC coach Mark Prater.

Koster, Playfair, Prater and the remainder of the quad crew will eventually meet up with fellow SUBC Australian Under 23 representatives Tom Sacre, Chris Cunningham-Reid, Nick Wheatley and Jack Hargreaves (men’s eight crew) in Varese in Italy for final preparations.

Sacre (Bachelor of Arts) and Cunningham-Reid (Bachelor of Sciences) are both SUSF EAP scholarship holders.
