Sydney University Blue Margaret Whitlam, one of Australia’s most influential and well-loved prime minister’s wives, has died at the age of 92.

Margaret received a Swimming Blue in 1939 after she competed at the 1938 Empire Games (now known as the Commonwealth Games).

A Sydney University Blue is the highest sporting honour at the University. It is awarded for outstanding performance in a sport during a twelve-month period.

Margaret met former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam whilst studying at Sydney University.

Mrs Whitlam is survived by her husband Gough Whitlam and their four children.
