Sydney University continued their solid start to the men’s Sydney Metropolitan Super League 3 water polo season with a 15-6 result over the Hunter Hurricanes in their Round 4 clash at the Sydney Uni Aquatic Centre on Saturday.

Jacob Mercep led the scoring for the hosts with four goals, while Loui Schuler scored three and Drew McJannett and Keegon Wicken each bagged doubles. Hamish Hegarty, Stefan Despotovich, Josef Schuler and Tyler Krenkels also found the back of the net. The win helped the Lions to second place on the ladder behind Drummoyne Devils, with Cronulla Sharks and UTS Balmain Tigers making up the top four. 

Sydney University’s Super League 3 women’s side also accounted for the Hurricanes with a 20-7 result at the Aquatic Centre on Friday night. Luci Marsh led the scoring for the winners with five goals, while Maude Megans and Sienna Green each scored four, Samantha Henderson landed three and Matilda Waugh and Samantha Hardingham also scored goals.

In other men’s matches, Sydney Uni’s M2 side accounted for UTS Balmain Tigers 27-8, while the M3 side defeated the Tigers 16-11. Sydney Uni’s M6 Blue side defeated Ryde 9-7 and the M7 side accounted for Ryde 12-5. In the junior men’s ranks, Sydney University’s M12s drew 7-7 with UNSW Wests White; SU’s M14B Blacks defeated SU’s White 13-1; Sydney Uni’s M16B Whites lost 0-5 to Drummoyne and SU’s 16A Gold side defeated ACU Cronulla 15-3; and SU’s Gold 18A side drew 7-7 with SNB Breakers, while the SU Blue side defeated UTS Balmain Gold 9-3. 

In other women’s results, Sydney University’s M2 side defeated UTS Balmain Tigers 14-6, while the M3 side went down 10-1 to the Tigers. And the SU M6 Blue side defeated Macquarie University Reds 17-2. The junior ranks saw SU’s U12s account for SNB Breakers 6-3 and UNSW Wests 9-2; the SU U14B Golds defeat the SU Whites 13-2 and the 14A Blues defeat UTA Balmain 9-2; the 16B Golds defeat UTS Balmain 6-2 and the 16B Whites defeat Drummoyne Blacks 10-2; the SU 16A Blues defeat SNB Breakers 10-2 and SU 18s defeated SNB Breakers 9-5.
